Encouraging communication, language, and literacy in young children.

The Challenge

In 2017, 18% of children in the UK hadn’t reach expected levels of communication, language, and literacy by aged five. This was found to negatively impact children well into their adult lives.

The BBC launched an ambitious pre-school language and literacy campaign aimed at parents and carers to support children in their early years. We were tasked with creating video resources that would support home learning.

The Execution

We created a series of six short feel-good videos that encouraged adults to play, sing, and interact with their babies. Each video featured simple nursery rhymes, traditional songs, and baby-friendly games.

 

The simple on-screen text gave adults tips and ideas on how to develop their baby’s communication skills. We created hashtags like #TakeTimeToRhyme and #FindAWayToPlay to engage our audience and help create a movement of change.

 

We aimed to capture the hustle and bustle of a diverse range of family homes. And we wanted to show how easy it was to incorporate play, song, and rhyme into any busy routine – from bedtime, bath time and beyond.
