IHMA brand and website

We were delighted to be appointed as The International Harbour Masters' Association (IHMA) partner to help in creating a new brand, to design a suite of assets and to redevelop their website for the refreshed www.harbourmaster.org

The IHMA is a global professional association, With members in more than 50 countries, for those with responsibility for the safe, secure, efficient and environmentally sound conduct of marine operations in port waters.

Brand Redevelopment

We kicked off our new partnership with the IHMA by creating a new identity and set of brand guidelines - New logo, colour palette, and a consistent approach to imagery the fonts. The previous logo and organisational branding caused legibility issues when used online and at a reduced size, so we refreshed and simplified the design to make it fit for use on all platforms.

We created a new colour palette for the brand which has been influenced using the previous collateral. We retained the familiar blue, red and yellow from the previous branding, but adjusted the colours to add vibrancy. This vibrancy has helped to give the brand and subsequently the new website a more contemporary feel and makes content more visually appealing.

Website Redevelopment

When planning the visual approach for the new website we had two main considerations – engage existing users for more return visits and to encourage new member sign up.

The IHMA website contains everything you need to know about the organisation and it is the primary source for the user to learn more. We understood that as part of this project there would be a requirement to work closely with the IHMA to ensure that the content that users wanted was easily found. An analytical review of the previous 5 years' worth of user activity highlighted to us what users were interest in most when visiting the site and this research formed the basis of our content and user experience (UX) approach to the new website.

Through initial concept-ing, sketching and wire-framing, we created a new website structure and page hierarchy that we put through user-testing and this feedback contributed to the final user interface design for the new website.

The end result was a completely bespoke website for IHMA, built on Drupal, an open source content management system that we identified would allow us to deliver all the project's key requirements and more on a stable, secure and meticulously tested platform.

Our solution for www.harbourmaster.org is a simplified and more user-friendly experience overall, with improved visual aesthetic, enhanced user interface experience (UI) using full screen imagery, vibrant colours and iconography to engage the user and bring content to life.
